The Order: The Hunt Begin is an online story oriented about a group of plague doctors turned monster hunters. In post-apocalyptic United States, monsters run rampant and a newcomer must join their ranks to fight the mystical Judges. A passion project of mine.
Objective: The client is seeking a designer to create a book cover for an upcoming book release on the internet. The story is solely focused around digital release but the client would also like a physical mock-up for reference as they may want to release physical copies of the work.
Target Audience: The target audience is primarily focused on young adults 18-24 who enjoy reading post-apocalyptic and horror themed stories.
Style Concept: The stylistic choices of this project should reflect heavily on the content of the story itself. Post-apocalyptic should be kept into consideration when choosing themes and tones. To maximize cost effectiveness utilize negative space and stick to a duo tone color palette. A serif typeface choice would be the best in this case to show off a darker/old-world look. Additional film grain or intentional lower resolution imagery should be considered.
The project started with an image trace of a plague doctor reference and soon evolved to what you see here. Vector images of birds I had traced spouting from his back gave it an interesting look. The rifle and bloody combat knife were added to emphasize the post-apocalyptic/survival theme of the story.
The client wanted the original design to appear more lifelike and to emphasize the dark undertones of the story. I pushed the vector illustration through Photoshop and utilized an image provided by the client to create a more open feel to the design.
